Account Transfer
Request to transfer accounts to ABANCA
Clients who hold an account at ABANCA can request, free of charge, the transfer of an account from another institution to ABANCA or, if you have two accounts within ABANCA, you can transfer the operations from one account to another. With this service, we take care of moving all your transfers and direct debits to the ABANCA account of your choice.
In this way, we will bring to ABANCA, whenever you expressly request it:
- Your standing transfer orders (those credited to your account and those you issue).
- The direct debits charged to your account (bills).
You can do this at any ABANCA branch or via the mailbox solicitudtraslado@abanca.com. If the request is made through the mailbox, the process can be carried out 100% online.
What is needed to request an account transfer?
The first thing you need to transfer your account, whether it is an ABANCA account or from another institution, is to have an open account at ABANCA.
Once you meet this requirement, you must complete the account transfer request form,View PDF file in which you must indicate the destination account where you want your operations to be transferred, the source account where you currently carry out all your operations (account to be transferred), and the type of operations you want to transfer:
- The periodic transfers that are credited to your account.
- The standing transfer orders issued from your account.
- The direct debit orders to which the transfer should apply. In this case, it is essential that you send us, along with the request form, a bill for each direct debit you wish to transfer.
You must also indicate the date on which you want the change to the new direct debit account to take place (keep in mind that there are established deadlines for processing the transfer, so this date must be at least 13 days after you have submitted the completed transfer request to the institution), the date on which you want incoming direct debits and transfers to stop being accepted, and the date for the cancellation of standing orders issued from the account you wish to transfer.
Finally, if you wish, you may also request the transfer of the balance held in the account and the cancellation of the account to be transferred (and, in this case, also of the payment instruments linked to it, such as cards). If you request this, you must also specify the date on which you want these operations to be carried out (keep in mind that there may be pending operations, for example, credit card settlements).
What is the account transfer process like?
Once the request form is received, ABANCA will review all the submitted documentation and, if everything is correct, will send a signature request to the mobile phone of each account holder. With this signature, you authorize ABANCA to carry out this process on your behalf.
Signing remotely is very easy; you just need to open the App and access the notifications inbox. When our signature request arrives, you will see the notification at the top of the screen. Important: you must sign it before 11:59 p.m. on the day you receive our request in your App. If you do not sign via the App, we will not be able to continue with the procedures you have requested.
If the account you wish to transfer has more than one holder, the destination account must have the same ownership, and the transfer request must be signed by all holders in their App.The institution that owns the account to be transferred has a period of 5 days to respond to the information request.
In addition, it must process the cessation of acceptance of incoming transfers and direct debits and the cancellation of standing orders, all with effect from the date specified in the request.
Finally, if you have expressly requested it, it must proceed to transfer the balance held in the account and cancel it, also on the date specified in your transfer request, provided you have no outstanding payment obligations on that date. If there is any issue, the institution that owns the account to be transferred will inform you of the impossibility of cancelling the account.
Once ABANCA receives the information about the operations you were carrying out in your previous account, within 5 days we will carry out all the necessary steps to link them to the ABANCA account you have chosen (and specified in the information and transfer authorization request form).
If in any case we are unable to make the change, we will request more information to complete the process or, in any case, we will notify you of which actions we have been unable to carry out. Remember to check your email, as we will contact you through that channel to inform you of anything necessary.
Finally, if you decide to carry out any of the above actions yourself, you only need to inform us and we will provide you with a document containing your account details.
In case of any dispute, you will have access to the alternative dispute resolution procedures provided for in the first additional provision of Law 7/2017, of November 2.
