Social Commitment

At ABANCA, we understand financial activity as a tool for generating a positive impact on our surroundings.

Positive impact on our environment

ABANCA's social commitment becomes a reality, first and foremost, through the granting of financing to companies and families to carry out their economic and personal projects. In addition, we make available to them products, services and technological tools designed to meet their financial and insurance needs. Our hallmark: clear, easy and simple products and services.

Secondly, we act through a broad programme of actions designed to have an impact on areas with a significant effect on personal and collective development, such as education, culture, sport and the environment. In total, since our launch in 2014 we have devoted more than 120 million euros in social investment to promote these priorities, both through our own programmes and in collaboration with Afundación.

1. Afundación, ABANCA's Social Work

As its sole patron, we support Afundación by providing it with the capabilities to develop its educational, social and cultural work, focused on the holistic development of the individual and social transformation, while always seeking efficiency, relevance, innovation and sustainability.

  • Resources contributed by ABANCA: 110 million euros (2014-2027).
  • Impact: more than 2.5 million beneficiaries across its different programmes.
  • Objectives: to develop an innovative, high-quality higher education model geared towards business, strengthen the active role of older people in society, and promote knowledge through culture.

2. Financial inclusion

Our extensive presence on the ground makes us a benchmark institution in financial inclusion, guaranteeing access to financial services for people living in rural areas.

  • Accessibility: thanks to our network of fixed and mobile branches, Galicia ranks among the TOP-3 autonomous communities with the best financial accessibility in Spain.
  • Unique reach: the only financial institution present in 141 Galician municipalities.

3. Education, art and grassroots sport

We believe in knowledge and the values of sport as drivers of social transformation.

  • Financial education: we develop different programmes in collaboration with Afundación, with a strong technological component and special attention to schoolchildren and older people.
  • Higher education: we promote the Intercontinental University of Enterprise (UIE), a cutting-edge, private institution with a public service mission, non-profit and committed to the sustainable development of society, culture and the economy.
  • ABANCA Art Collection and Bibliographic Collection: we promote one of the most important initiatives of its kind in Spain, made up of two catalogues comprising 1,369 works and 3,632 volumes declared Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC).
  • Support for sport: through ABANCA Grassroots Sport we support more than 20,000 athletes and 1,600 grassroots teams in 34 different disciplines.
