We help you help the environment

We are a bank committed to you, but also to the planet. We work to take care of you, but also of everyone and everything else.

We want to give back to nature everything it has given us, and we do so by restoring forests that have been degraded by wildfires or natural disasters.

  • Native species

We support the planting and recovery of coniferous and broadleaf forests, native species of the areas to be restored.

  • Professional help

We rely on specialists who follow all the necessary care so that the trees grow healthy.

  • Carbon footprint

This initiative helps us offset our impact on the environment.

  • We reforest areas degraded by fires or disasters

We promote the planting of native species from Galicia, broadleaf and coniferous trees ecologically adapted to the areas where the plantations are carried out. Specifically, in degraded forest areas that need to be restored after being affected by wildfires or having had a different use than forestry in the past.

To achieve this, we have the support of the team of experts from the Arume Foundation and the Galician Forestry Association, who will plant the trees at the optimal time of year and take care of them in the best possible way so they grow healthy and strong.

The actions follow an established silvicultural model that must be certified based on good forest management practices.

We breathe easy

We turn intentions into actions in favor of our forests.

We want to ensure that trees continue to be home to more than 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity, help mitigate global warming, and help us absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.

With our support, in 2024 forest areas covering a total of 80.74 hectares were restored in various municipalities across the four Galician provinces: Dodro (A Coruña), Ourol (Lugo), Entrimo and Lobios (Ourense), and Salvaterra de Miño (Pontevedra). Since 2020, ABANCA has supported restoration projects that have enabled the planting of more than 650,000 trees.

The goal of this initiative is to offset the CO2 emissions that we have not been able to reduce from our operational footprint and to be carbon neutral.

Taking care of our planet is in our nature

This is one of our projects to care for and protect our planet. If you want to learn about the rest of the commitments we have made to protect it, we’ll tell you all about them!
