about your online purchases

In January 2021, the European Payment Services Directive, better known as PSD2, came into effect, changing the way Europeans shop and pay online with the aim, among others, of protecting us from possible fraud and identity theft.

Now, when you make a purchase on certain websites or in some mobile apps, you need to identify yourself with your mobile phone and in a more rigorous way than before. Keep reading!

Do you already use the ABANCA mobile banking app?

Good news: if you use our mobile banking app, it will be very easy for you to adapt.

Just make sure you have notifications enabled:

1- Open your ABANCA app. 2- Go to the top left menu and select "Notifications." 3- Activate the alerts you want to receive.

When you make an online purchase payment, and if the ecommerce site requires it, we will send you the operation confirmation through a notification from your ABANCA app. You will be able to make your payments in the most convenient and secure way, and keep buying whatever you want, wherever you want.

This security check is one of the improvements of the PSD2 directive: Strong Customer Authentication, an extra layer of security for your online purchases.

And if you don't have the ABANCA app...

If for any reason you do not want to download the ABANCA app, keep in mind that to be able to shop on certain sites we will ask you to validate each purchase with your card PIN. In addition, we will also send you an SMS with a one-time password, so it is important to make sure we have your up-to-date mobile number.
